USB-C is one connector, not one standard
The oval plug is the same, but what it carries is not. One USB-C cable may only charge and transfer data at USB 2.0 speeds, while another supports fast data, video output and high-wattage charging. Port markings on the device and printed specs on the cable are the only reliable way to tell.
For laptops, look for a cable rated for the wattage your charger delivers. For fast external drives or displays, look for USB4 or Thunderbolt support. Buying cables from reputable brands saves a lot of confusion, and it is safer than the cheapest unbranded option.
